LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Director Michael Moore's controversial documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" turned on the box office heat in its first day in theaters breaking single-day records at the two New York City theaters where it played. The movie, which aims a critical eye at President Bush and his prosecution of the war in Iraq, sold $49,000 worth of tickets at the Loew's Village 7 theater, beating the venue's single-day record of $43,435 held by 1997's "Men in Black," according to distributors Lions Gate Films and IFC Films. Paul T. Hellyer and Ellen Mariani to be featured on CIUT radio program
The Honorable Paul T. Hellyer, Minister of Defense in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, and former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, has made a surprise appearance at the International Citizen's Inquiry Into 9/11 on May 26th to comment on the need for a full investigation into the events of 9/11.
A clip of this interview will be aired for the first time on CIUT Radio's Innovations with Jesse Mendes, Saturday, May 29th between 2-3pm EST.
This is an exclusive to CIUT. CIUT can be found on the FM dial at 89.5FM and on the world wide web at www.ciut.fm.
Featured on the same edition will be a full interview with special guest Ellen Mariani, a 9/11 widow who has filed a civil RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) action lawsuit against President Bush and other high level members of his administration.
The suit is based upon alleged prior knowledge of 9/11; knowingly failing to act, prevent or warn of 911, and the ongoing obstruction of justice by covering up the truth of 9/11 - all in violation of the laws of the United States. She seeks judicial redress to restore the U.S. Constitution's "Separation of Powers" clause so that never again will another "911" occur in America.
Ellen Mariani will also be appearing as a speaker Sunday May 30th at 10:00am at The International Citizens' Inquiry Into 9/11, Phase 2, being held here in Toronto May 25-30th, 2004 at the Convocation Hall, University of Toronto. International Citizens' Inquiry Into 9/11 Phase 2: Toronto, CANADA

The movement for 9-11 Truth is an investigative project, aimed at exposing the official cover-up and replacing it with a robustly accurate story. But it's also an activist group that tries to diminish the violence of America's current agenda. Those two pursuits are intimately connected: as we figure out what happened in 2001, we increase our chances of exposing the plotters and slowing their onslaught. And as current events unfold, the motivations for the 9-11 plot come into sharper focus.
The Inquiry is a strange experience. It combines analytical thinking with emotional anxiety and a sort of spiritual detachment that can be paradoxically uplifting. By facing the horror of political reality, you put aside the burdens of denial and pick up more useful burdens of awareness and insight. All the content is so grim that it's difficult to bring anybody into it; ignorance is allegedly bliss, and bliss is in short supply these days. Packing the hall is not easy.
But it turns out that ignorance isn't really so blissful unless it's complete, and nobody's completely ignorant. Once you know a little about what's going on in the Empire, it's dishonest and self-defeating to stop learning about it; soon enough, the very refusal to learn becomes a tiresome effort. As Dante said about the Hypocrites in his Inferno: "all their strength is exhausted in keeping up appearances." After a steady diet of sugared deception and acquiescence, passive complicity and complacency, you get awfully hungry for something more nutritious -- even if it's bitter.
The people who got murdered on 9-11 are gone and the truth can't bring anybody back. But it can save other people's lives, who might otherwise die in a false-flag operation or in the war it would trigger. And it can bring retributive justice to bear on the plotters, who killed the three thousand so that they could go to Afghanistan and Iraq and kill a few hundred thousand more. Where is this zealous neo-conservative cadre going to fire its DU shells next? Don't rule out the Arabian peninsula, home of the epicenter of Islamic civilization and of the greatest remaining oil reserves on the planet --- conveniently separated from one another by a vast tract of dessert. But how will the U.S. resource grab continue if its military is already getting cut up in Iraq?

The International Citizens' Inquiry Into 9/11 in Toronto has successfully completed its third day. There has been media coverage of the event with interviews with many of the presenters on local radio and TV programs. On Wednesday, May 26 the Canadian Action Party held an election campaign press conference at the Inquiry with appearances by the current leader lawyer Connie Fogal and by the Founder of the party, former Deputy-Prime Minster of Canada Paul Hellyer. Both were photographed with the Inquiry banner and expressed support for the Inquiry's objectives.

Yesterday's opening of the Inquiry was a success! Things started off with an introduction by the Deputy Director of the Inquiry, Nenke Jongkind. Barrie Zwicker followed with his thoughts on "Where Are We Now and Where Are We Going". The day was then filled with informative films, speakers and later by performances from talented artists including David Rovics and The Dope Poet Society. NEW POLL - 63% of Canadians Believe U.S. Had Prior Knowledge of 9/11 Attacks and Did Nothing!
Most Canadians believe the U.S. Government knew that the attacks of September 11, 2001 were coming - and did not act to prevent them, a poll released today indicates. When asked about the following statement, 63% of Canadians agreed that "Individuals within the U.S. Government including the White House had prior knowledge of the plans for the events of September 11th, and failed to take appropriate action to stop them". Additionally, 16% of Canadians believe that individuals within the U.S. Government were involved in the planning and execution of the events of September 11th.

Best-selling Author John Gray to Address 9/11 Inquiry in Toronto
Dr. John Gray, one of the world's bestselling authors, will address the Citizens' Inquiry Into 9/11 on Sunday, May 30 at Convocation Hall, University of Toronto. Dr. Gray will speak on "What Really Happened on 9/11 - The Need for Truth to Heal the 9/11 Families and America".
John Gray is the latest, and one of the most notable, additions to the roster of more than 25 presenters at the Toronto 9/11 Inquiry, which is being held May 25 to 30.
Dr. Gray is the author of 15 books, including Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, the number one best-selling book of the last decade. In the past 10 years, over 30 million Mars and Venus books have been sold in over 40 languages throughout the world. Launch of "The 911 Show" on Toronto's CIUT 89.5FM takes place tomorrow, Thursday, May 6th, 11 a.m. to noon.
Subsequent editions of the program will air on the Thursdays May 13th, 20th and 27th. The May 20th show will be a special extended program, a Round Table featuring David Ray Griffin, author of the highly-praised book The New Pearl Harbor--Disturbing Questions about the Bush Administration and 9/11.
Griffin will be live from Europe during the two-hour program in conversation with the host and four guests in CIUT's Toronto studios.
Steve Reimer will anchor the first edition of the new program and be available for other scheduled 911 progammes. Phil Taylor will also function as an anchor beginning May 13th. CIUT will provide its studios and a board technician for all shows.
The program is a co-operative venture of the International Citizens' Inquiry Into 9/11 (to be held May 25-30) and CIUT-FM, which is also becoming the exclusive radio sponsor of the Inquiry.
CIUT 89.5FM will cover the Inquiry extensively.
